2. How long will it take before the results are available?
Some speciality tests will take a long duration to deliver the results. Similarly, cultures, biopsies, and paps will take longer because of the manual nature of the processes. However, a wide majority of the tests are completed within four hours.
3. Why do I require a lab test?
A lab test reveals the vital parameters of your body functions and helps your doctor determine the nature of a medical condition and assess the general health of your body. Lab tests play a crucial role in deciding the further course of your treatment.
4. What are the specimens that can be tested?
Blood and urine are the most common specimens tested for analysis. All cells and body fluids are also tested. This includes sweat, saliva, tissues, sputum, stools, bone marrow, body scrapings, joint fluid, and spinal fluid.
5. How is a blood sample collection done?
Only a few drops of blood are required for some tests, and it is collected by pricking the fingertip and collecting the blood onto a test pad, filter paper, or tube. When the test requires more blood, the sample is taken by drawing blood from the vein in your arm. Before the blood is drawn, an elastic band is tied around your upper arm to increase the blood flow. The puncture site is cleaned with a dab of an antiseptic solution to prevent infections.
6. What do my test results mean?
Your lab tests help evaluate your health condition. Sometimes, the results may be out of the normal range. You must discuss any lab results with your doctor rather than making any interpretations of your own.
